The Mediterranean’s largest island, and truly a place apart, makes weddings in Sicily an ideal Italian marriage location.
“To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything”, wrote Goethe in his Italian journey after having visited Sicily in 1787.
Sicily weddings, as with the rest of the island’s architecture, cuisine and language, bear the imprint of a myriad of influences over the centuries, from Greek to Arabic and Roman to Spanish. Fragrant orange and lemon groves scent the air of this undeniably romantic wedding location in Europe.
Sicily’s capital, Palermo, is a busy and exciting city with a huge amount to see and do. The Normans had a vital influence on the city, which is evident through its fabulous architecture. The historic streets and markets, monuments, museums and churches are fascinating to discover. There are many wedding traditions and locations in Sicily than blend in with all the sightseeing opportunities available in this unique marriage location.
Palermo is a good starting point where to plan a wedding in Sicily. You can explore the mountains, rugged coastline and quiet towns of the Tyrrhenian coast. You could get even further away from it all on the remote Aeolian Islands, just a short boat trip away.
The Ionian coast, meanwhile, is dominated by massive Mount Etna and has many highlights. A wander amongst Etna’s foothills is a must, as is a visit to the nearby ancient ruins. These include Siracusa, once the most important and beautiful city in the Greek world. The chic resort of Taormina is another very popular Sicilian wedding destination for Europeans and Americans.
The southern coast also has much to recommend it for Italian weddings in Sicily, from small resorts to ancient Greek relics and the lovely Baroque towns of Ragusa, Modica and Noto.
The west of the island, by contrast, has a palpably Arabic feel to its landscape and architecture. Yet another one of the diverse reasons why you should choose this exotic island as a marriage location for an unforgettable wedding in Italy.

WEDDING IN TUSCAN ARCHIPELAGO

The islands of the Tuscan Archipelago are some of the loveliest destination in the Mediterranean Sea. Legend has it that Venus, the Roman goddess of love, while she was emerging from the crystal blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, turned the seven pearls she dropped off her necklace into seven islands: Elba, the largest of the seven sisters, Giglio, Giannutri, Capraia, the mysterious and wild Montecristo, Pianosa, and Gorgona the smallest. Each island has its own history and its own peculiarities, but only five of the seven isles can be visited: Elba, Pianosa, Capraia, Giglio and Giannutri. Sensual isles, surrounded by crystal-clear waters, rich in sandy beaches, small coves and steep cliffs, green mountains and hills, vineyards and olive groves, forts and historic villas, countryside farmhouses, hotels and seaside restaurants.

WEDDING IN SARDINIA

If you love sunshine, sand and the sea, the island of Sardinia could be the perfect location for your Italian wedding. Surrounded by the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean and located between Italy and Tunisia, Sardinia is quiet, picturesque and romantic.

Sardinia’s biggest town is its capital, the ferry port of Cagliari, enclosed by ancient city walls which feature two Pisan towers. Delicious Italian cuisine can be sampled in its restaurants, and its charming center fully repays time invested in its exploration. Cagliari’s archaeological museum is a highlight of the town, as is its cathedral and its Roman amphitheater. Some 25 miles outside is the ancient site of Nora, with more atmospheric ruins from Roman times.
The ferry port of Olbia is a good base from which to discover the northern coast of Sardinia, which ranges from the opulent resort area of the Costa Smeralda to many miles of wild, undeveloped coastline. Stunning beaches are strung out along the coast, and over 60 minor islands are within easy reach.
Sardinia’s oldest resort is the friendly fishing port of Alghero in the north west. A former Catalan colony, the town has retained a Spanish feel and is a lovely place to stay.
The interior of the island is well worth discovering. Its forests, mountains and hills are dotted with tiny, traditional villages, where you may be fortunate enough to witness the celebration of one of the many village festivals, held throughout the year. The town of Nuoro at Sardinia’s center is ideal as a starting point from which to visit the nearby mountains. Sassari, in the west, is also recommended.
Sardinia is less visited by tourists than much of the rest of Italy, which means that it has seen less industry and development. It is a beautiful, unspoiled and welcoming island, a highly romantic location for your Italian wedding.

The king of an island is the sea. Wherever you go inland, you can always breathe and listen to it.

The sea rules and protects its seven pearls from the rest of the world to give you back their entire naturally seductive ambience. So make a rendez-vous with destiny amid the breathtaking surreal beauty of these islands of love.
